The city of Toride is blessed with a rich environment of water and greenery. Located within 40 kilometers from Tokyo, has an attractive, balanced coexistence between urban activities and nature. The opening of the Ueno Tokyo Line has brought changes to the city by making commuting to Tokyo more convenient.
Two large rivers , the Tone river and the Kokai river, flow through the city of Toride, which is blessed with a rich natural emvironment. The riversides provide excellent locations for water recreation facilities as public relaxation place.

In 1991, the TOKYO GEIJUTSU DAIGAKU(the Tokyo University of the Arts)opend a campus in Toride, which has brought the opportunity to build Toride Art town. At present, many art works are displayed everywhere in the city, which makes Toride known as Art Town.
Toride city has promoted the project of 'The city with wall painting ' since 2000. Large wall paintings play an important role in environmental improvement.
Some wall paintings were designed by elementary school students, others were selected in a competition. Visitors can enjoy wide variety of designs. At present , there're 34wall paintings.
Toride City and Tokyo University of the Arts have promoted cultural exchanges since Toride premises of Tokyo University of the Arts opened in 1988.
Toride Mayor's prize is awarded to 2 works selected from graduation or completion works of Tokyo University of the Arts every year since 1989. The works selected as Toride Mayor's prize are exhibited in public facilities so that many people can appreciate them.
There are many traditional festivals and events in Toride.
One of the annual New Year's events is the Toride Tone river kite flying festival and in May there's Kokai river Flower Canal spring flower festival, where poppies bloom all at once as if competing with each other.
As one of the most traditional Toride's summer festivals, there're Yasaka-jinja Shrine Festival and Toride Tone river Fireworks Festival. Visitors can enjoy the atmosphere of Japanese summer festivals and the fireworks displays in the night sky over the river.
As you can see, many traditional festivals and events are held throughout the year in Toride.
